MakersCollective

A space and time to do creative work together

August 31 - September 9, 2016

Artist Residency

A community of artists
Reconnect

MakersCollective bring you an 8 day retreat in rural Portugal for a small group of artists and musicians. We will live, eat, work, and laugh together as we spend the week creating new work, learning from one another through skill shares, exploring the village and relaxing in nature. This is a chance for us to create an experience that goes beyond a vacation; a chance to re-balance, check in with what’s important, and reconnect to our source of creativity.

About

Travel

At the moment there are flights from London Stansted to Porto at around £80. There are flights to Lisbon as well, but generally Porto is cheaper and slightly closer. We advise you arrive to Porto on the morning of August 31st so that you can get to us by that evening, and to fly out on September 9th. If you leave Gois at 7am the earliest flight you can catch is the 12pm from Porto. Including all travel, it takes about 4 hours to get from the Porto airport to Gois and vice versa. If you would like to extend your trip, we can give you advice on where to go and what to do.

Traveling to Gois by Train

From either Porto or Lisbon, you can catch a train to Coimbra B, where we will pick everyone up together and drive to Gois.

  • Intercidades or Alfa Pendular Train from Porto-Campanhã or Lisboa Santa Apolónia/Lisboa Oriente to Coimbra-B (about EU24 return)

  • Pick up from Coimbra on August 31st evening in time for welcome dinner

  • Drop off at Coimbra early morning September 9th

Travel

Casa do Artista, Gois

We will be working in partnership with Raizvanguarda, a non profit arts cultural organization based in Gois, Portugal, a beautiful mountainside village. They will be putting us up at Casa do Artista in the centre of town and 200 metres away from two river beaches. We’ll have access to work spaces and staff support at Casa da Cultura do Gois, a 280 px capacity theatre-style auditorium five minutes walk from home. More info about Casa do Artista, & Gois.

Accommodation

We’ll be staying in either individual or shared rooms with access to cooking area, common area, work spaces etc. Breakfast will be simple help-yourself setup. Lunch will be catered. Dinner will generally be cooked together except for our welcome dinner and celebration dinner after the final performance.

Instruments

There is a possibility of borrowing instruments from local orchestras. If you will need an instrument, please let us know ASAP and we will try to get one for you. It will depend on availability, but will be easier to attain if you get in touch sooner!
